Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Where are you located?

Wonderland Performing Arts is located at 2807 Johnston St Lafayette, La 70503 (In the South College Shopping Center, next door to Osaka).

What ages do you teach?

Classes begin with students in PreK 3 (must be potty trained) and continue through 18 years of age.

Will my child progress each year?

Yes! Students will learn specific skills each session based on the class in which they are enrolled. Young children thrive in environments of repetition and routine. Older children are ready for challenges and more variety.

What is “movement?”

We use the term movement to describe dance, stage blocking, choreography, and various types of theatrical movement studies.

If I want to speak with a teacher, should I approach them before or after a class?

Teachers are running from one class to another, so approaching them between their classes is not allowed. Doing so will keep them from their other students and obligations. Use your Parent Portal on the Wonderland app for communication. These emails come to our office staff, and we can put you in touch with your teacher or help you directly.

How do I order Wonderland merchandise?

Merchandise orders will open periodically throughout the year. When an ordering window is open, you will be able to find the catalog on your Wonderland App and on our website! We will send a push notification to let you know it’s time to order! Black Wonderland t-shirts are always available in our lobby!

What are your office hours?

Wonderland Office Hours are Monday-Thursday 10 am-3 pm. You can always reach us by email at info@wonderlandperformingarts.com. We will get back to you ASAP.

Do you accept new registrations after the session has begun?

The answer to this question varies, depending on the class a student is trying to join mid-session. We accept registration throughout the school year for some classes. If it is not a good time to jump into a class, we will notify you and try to accommodate you to the best of our ability.

CLASSES

When will classes begin?

Classes for the Winter 2023 session begin January 3, 2023. Click here to register.

What do I do if there is a waitlist for a class?

Join the waitlist if a class is full! A waitlist lets our Wonderland staff know that a class needs an additional section added to our schedule. Once there are enough students on the waitlist we can open another class and accommodate all interested students!

May I take a free trial class?

Yes! If you are unsure of the class, your child may attend their 1st class with no obligation to join! We do prefer and recommend doing this earlier in the session, rather than later. It is difficult for a child to “jump in” to an established class. If you have questions about joining a particular class later in the year, just reach out! Fill out a contact us form and we will help you!

What is the dress code for my child’s class?

The dress code is listed in the parent handbook which you can find here.

Will I be the oldest in class?

Classes are open to certain grade levels therefore all students are similar in age. Wonderland cannot guarantee the ages of students who enroll in a class.

How do I know what class(es) to enroll in?

Start by finding classes based on your child’s grade level. Read class titles, days, times, and class descriptions carefully. If you still need help deciding, reach out to us via our contact us form.

How do I know if my child is enrolled in the correct class level?

Students are placed in class by grade level. Your instructor will reach out to you if they recognize your child should be in a different class level.

Should my child take multiple classes per week?

Each child is unique! Their age, maturity, dedication level, and readiness are all factors to consider when choosing classes. If you need further assistance or guidance, we are here to advise. Reach out via the contact us form on our site.

Can my child participate in a live stage production WITHOUT being in a skills-based class?

No. Students must audition to participate in our stage productions. Upon being cast in a production, a student must be enrolled in at least one skills-based class to remain in the production.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, we charge $30 for a 30-minute in-person lesson and $20 for a 30-minute virtual lesson! Click here for more information.

Can I watch my child in class?

Yes, there are cameras in every studio. You can view your child’s class through your Parent Portal on any mobile device!

How can I find my class materials?

Once enrolled in a class, it can be accessed through your Parent Portal on our Wonderland App. Each class will have a “RESOURCES” button. Your teacher will put materials such as scripts, sheet music, song tracks, etc. in this section of your app!! FUN!

How often is tuition charged?

Your full tuition amount will be posted in your family account upon registration, with a $100 deposit due at this time (our office staff has to post and charge this fee manually, so it fees will be available in your account within 1-2 business days). You can log into your parent portal and pay your balance whenever you wish. If you choose not to pay in full, remaining tuition will be automatically charged in two equal payments throughout the session (dates available here).

What are my commitment obligations?

When you enroll in a class you are committing to the entire 10-week session. We highly discourage withdrawing from a class before the session ends. Students are learning valuable skills and are usually preparing a performance piece. When a student drops, it affects the entire class. We do a lot of collaborating in class so if your child is leaving mid-session another student is losing his/her scene partner, dance partner, singing partner, etc.

How do I withdraw from class?

If you have considered your commitment obligations, and still need to make the decision to withdraw from class, you may do so by submitting a 30-day written notice to info@wonderlandperformingarts.com. No withdrawal requests made in-person to the staff of Wonderland are considered appropriate or applicable. The remainder of your student’s class tuition is due upon withdrawal.

SHOWCASE

What is Showcase?

Showcase is a chance for each class to show off the skills learned throughout the session to family/friends! We have Showcase at the end of each session.

Do I have to participate in Showcase?

Yes! All students participating in classes are required to perform for our end-of-year Showcase. You will be given the date ahead of time, so make this a priority for your family. If a student does not perform, their classmates are without a member of their group, and their absence hurts the rest of the class. Participation is essential to building self-discipline, self-accountability, teamwork, and reliability which are of utmost importance in the arts and in life.

STAGE PRODUCTIONS

How do I participate in a stage production at Wonderland?

You must audition to participate in one of our live stage productions. Click here for more information.

How much performance experience is required to be in a stage production?

Any student may audition for our KIDS or JR productions. If they are ready for this type of experience, if there is space in the cast, and if the family agrees to all of the requirements, the student will be admitted into the production. Click here for more information.

What if I am not cast in the production I auditioned for?

If a student is not cast, it may be due to the amount of space available, maturity, readiness, commitment, or previous behavioral issues. If you do not get cast in our production, don’t give up! Choose a class, work on your skills, and try again next time auditions are open!

Remember, it takes 20,000 hours to become an expert at something. Dream big, follow your heart, be deliberate in your efforts, and keep reaching for the stars!

When are production rehearsals?

KIDS Production rehearsals are held on Tuesdays, 6:00-7:30pm and select Sundays, 3:00-6:00pm.
JUNIOR Production rehearsals are held on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm and Sundays 3:00-7:00 pm.

What if my child has a conflict and cannot attend rehearsal?

All conflicts should be listed on your audition form. We ask that you only miss due to illness or emergency. When a cast member is not at rehearsal it is very difficult to rehearse any scenes or choreography without them. 3 or more unplanned absences in one session may result in losing company status.

Am I required to take a class in addition to attending rehearsals?

Yes. We require all production members to be enrolled in at least one skill-building class.

Are private lessons an approved class for productions members?

No, private lessons do not fulfill your skills-based class requirements.
